Q: How has your role in the company changed over the past 5 years?

A: When Roger and I purchased Marathon Moving & Delivery there wasn’t much of a ‘separation of duties.’ We all pitched in to get things done – answer the phone, schedule jobs, clean the warehouse, receive and inspect furniture, and take care of customers. I even went out on a jobsite once to assist in a large residential move – I packed the kitchen – and it was one of the worst weekends of that winter – bitterly cold, icy roads, and blistering winds. But we got the job done. Initially, I did back office administrative stuff like insurance, compliance with government regulations, and then came the marketing. I began attending networking events and getting the word out about our services. It wasn’t long after, that I was labeled the ‘face’ of the company since I was the main person everyone met out in the community and at networking events.

Q: What is a snapshot of your current duties as the Director of Marketing?

A: Most people do not know that since launching the franchise last spring, most of my time is spent supporting franchisees through corporate marketing efforts as well administrative duties for the franchise. I manage our social media and website presence as well as oversee our blog and search engine optimization. I would also call myself the CEO’s

administrative assistant. I have had to limit the number of networking events, workshops, and seminars that I attend, but I still enjoy going to events and networking with other professionals several times a month. Sometimes people try to contact me regarding pricing or scheduling and I have to let them know that I do not handle daily operations. Our Customer Service Ninja is responsible for that area of the business.

Q: What are some things you like to do in your free time?

A: I love to read books! I actually dream of having my own library room, walls lined with bookshelves complete with the perfect reading chair, ottoman, and lamp. I also enjoy taking walks, watching a good movie with my husband, mastering my boxing skills, and playing board/card games with my friends.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: When I was young, even into high school, I wanted to be a social worker. That was the best field I saw where I could genuinely help others improve their lives.

Q: What is a fact about you that most people don’t know?

A: I am terribly afraid of spiders – call it a phobia – especially after a scary experience with one when I was very young and we never found it in my bedroom. I couldn’t sleep in my own bed for several weeks. Yikes! Ok, on a serious note, most people do not realize that I am actually very nervous when speaking in front of a group. I think I am able to cover it up fairly well because I am so high energy, but I still get nervous!
